Holding firm to a positive mindset

Introduction to mindset

The popular saying Rome was not built in a day shows that we should keep making effort towards that skill or that learning that our various fields (either Tech, Technical writing, and so on) might demand from us. This looks easy to say and you might think let me start putting effort from this day on but I can assure you that all this will not work or might not be easy to be put in motion without having a positive mindset.

We are going to be discussing mindset based on fixed mindset, growth mindset, and grit, just before we dive into them. What do you understand by a positive mindset?

What is a positive mindset

A positive mindset is the continuous search for a hopeful (positive) result from a habit (skills) and making the best out of any situation that habit puts you in. This shows that negativity about your learning in any particular field should not have had a sit on any debate topic. The quote that goes thus: I refuse to entertain negativity. Life is too big and time is too short to get caught up in empty drama says it all about being negative. They really should not have been a time you allow negative thoughts or people's negative attitudes or feelings (which are majorly based on envy) to determine your skills or to define who you are when you can be positive to save time. This shows you have to grow your mindset and not make it fixed.

What is a fixed mindset

A fixed mindset is when people believe their talent, intelligence, and skills are fixed which means they do not believe it can change, this shows that their intelligence had been up for judgment which makes them think they cannot move forward. These are people that run away from a challenge and believe they cannot be world-class in their chosen field.

There is a saying that Nothing can harm you as much as your thoughts unguarded but for a fixed mind setter their thought is already far from the guidance, which needs to be brought back home to guidance with a growth mindset.

What is a growth mindset

This is just the opposite of a fixed mindset as they believe that the ability to learn is not fixed and humans evolved with constant thinking by finding and providing solutions to problems. An idea developed by American Psychologist Carol Dweck at Stanford University shows that when kids read and learn about the brain they are much more likely to persevere when they fail because they do not believe that failure is a permanent condition (they understand that their ability could be developed).

Humans are bound to fail over and over again but the strongest of them all are the ones that pick themselves up, dust off that failure, and keep moving forward.

Note: Growth movement should always be at your own pace but a very good pace.

Just as Martin Luther King said and I quote If you cannot fly then run, if you cannot run then walk, if you cannot walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward and by moving forward you have to hold on to your grit.

What is grit

Grit is passion and perseverance to long-term and meaningful goals. That skill you think you can master gave others a hard time before they can also master it. No man is an island of knowledge but through practice and consistency they were able to get there, what do you think makes them achieve it. Oh, you are getting a hang of it now, it is grit because with passion and perseverance (working hard towards that goal) you can achieve what they also achieve.

Note: Passion and perseverance go hand in hand for it to work out because we have passionate people that do not put in that effort towards that skill to make it works and vice-versa.

Grit is having the stamina to stick with your future day in and day out and working hard to make that future a reality. Grit is mostly unrelated to talent because when you have a talent and you do not put in the work what you are playing with is your future.

I will love to leave you with a quote from Rick Warren which says

Always remember how far you have come, not just how far you have to go. You are not where you want to be, but neither are you where you used to be

So let's put in the work and make that future a reality. I am your first fan and I am rooting for you.
